Getting Started Series: Day 1 – Introduction

Get Online Basics has been in the works since the beginning of the year. Well the domain was purchased and ideas started to float around in my head about my ideas to help the small business owner and the entrepreneur learn more about the basics on bringing their business online. The idea came from talking to client after client who already had an existing business but were confused about this whole online marketing concept.

When I launched in August I knew that I was going about a little bit backwards but folks still loved it. They had no idea I was going backwards. Well now the secret is out, but I am rectifying it starting today!

Today we are starting a yearlong sequence of series dedicated to helping the new online marketer understand how to sort through the maze of what seems like a monster challenge ahead. Taking the leap towards building a strong online presence can be scary. Sure, you may have been online for sometime fiddling with Facebook or Tweeting with your buddies but now you want to market your business: Totally Different!

This is why I decided to start this series. I have spoken with many individuals, who like many of you reading this post; have been online in some capacity for a while but only to check on email or something that does not require a lot of time or commitment. Online marketing requires a bit of both.

When I speak to these individuals I tell them that investing in online marketing is one the best decisions any serious business owner can make. When I say business owner, I mean anyone who is making a living doing their own thing. As a business owner you understand what it means to invest.

When it comes to online marketing the investing is no different. It is not an overnight out of the box concept. There is work involved in online marketing.

Let me also note that this series is not about internet marketing. Will I cover some of the aspects of internet marketing? Yes I will; but the focus will be on engaging your market so that they are attracted to your message.

Do you know you message? You should, and if you don’t, stay tuned and we will discuss that :)

Marketing online has many components but the wonderful thing is that you don’t have to do it all! You can discover the most beneficial components for your style and market and run with that.

Another note: You really don’t have to be everywhere. Read this post to learn more.

The power of online marketing is not about being in a million places at one time. The power lies in understanding a few key points:

  • Knowing your marketing
  • The nitty gritty of your message
  • Understanding the power to authentic engagement
  • Creating a map that works for YOU!

Again when I speak about online marketing, I am not talking about internet marketing because many of you reading this post just want to know how to bring your business online with success. Internet Marketers are usually people who want to start a business online in some capacity. That is how I started in 2004. I came online to learn how to earn an income in cyber space. While I will talk about some of the components of internet marketing, the purpose of this series is not to teach you to be an internet marketer. If you choose to dabble in the arena a bit after reading what I share, BRAVO, to you. Internet Marketing can be a great additional stream of income for you.

We are starting this yearlong series discussing the beginnings of your online marketing journey. This month will be all about:

  • Knowing your market
  • Creating your online marketing map
  • Tools and resources to help you get started and stay the course
  • Presenting your authentic message
  • And more

Some months we will have blog post for every day and other months will not have as many. The wonderful thing is that at the end of each month’s series you will be able to download a handy PDF format of the entire series that you can print and use to help you with your online marketing endeavors.

Here are some of the other topics we will cover:

  • Social Media Marketing
  • Blogging Basics
  • Branding Basics
  • The Content Connection
  • Community Building
  • Building Your Team
  • How Internet Marketing May Help Your Business
  • The Tools of the Trade
  • Teleseminars and Webinars
  • Building a Better Website

Know that I am not an expert in every area and as always I will provide resources for you to learn more. I plan on interviewing a few key players to help you succeed :)

If you are seeking more direct guidance, you can set up a free consultation with me. For 30 minutes we will look at where you are and where you need to go with online marketing. Just fill out the contact form and let’s get you started.
