Day 13: How to Start Implementing Your Plan

Implementation is will turn your marketing plans into marketing actions. In understanding how to implement your online marketing plan perhaps we must find out what it means to actually implement something.

Implementation is what you do every day that will effectively put your plan into action. When you create your marketing plan you focus on the what and why. Implementation is different in that you focus on the who, where, when, and how.

Proper implementation can give your business the edge you need to reach your market and increase your income options.

How to get started implementing

First, you need to manage your online marketing activities. Write down what you want to do and when. One thing you can do is create a chart that will help you keep track Make a chart to keep track of what you actually planned. It is also a smart idea to utilize your marketing plan as a review tool to see how many marketing projects you’ve implemented. You could also use a checklist to keep track of what you need to do and by when to implement an activity.

For instance, if you plan on mailing out product catalogs every quarter to update your selection, plan on calling the catalog printing company to make sure they’ll be ready to print when you are.

Second you want to set up an evaluation system. This can be part of your chart where you are keeping track of your projects. You can also create a spreadsheet in Excel or Google Docs that lists the date, action, cost, team members; target completion date, date completed and results.

Evaluation is a good way to keep yourself accountable for what needs to be done.

When you are in this second phase make sure that you are…

  • focusing on the task at hand and the end results
  • paying attention to detail. This can become a huge problem if you are not taking the time to cross every ‘t’ and dot every ‘I’
  • delegating to your team members. Do what you know how to do best and outsource the rest. If you can’t outsource consider alternatives.

Third, include your market. Create surveys, ask questions, engage them in what you are implementing. You may notice along the way the some things need to be tweaked or totally revamped. Your marketing will be your strongest accountability partner :)

Don’t just think that because you feel it works that it will work for your market. Engaging them in your implementation process can only help you succeed.

Implementation is key to your online marketing success.
